I grew up in at time when the bad news was the main story and the Good news was just the tag line. Evangelism was the process by which you preached hell and damnation until your listeners were sick with fear. At the end you would succinctly state the way out was through Jesus and here is how you take that "Get Out Of Hell FREE" card. Several generations of United States Baptists have grown up more scarred and scared by evangelism than healed and released from fear. The Gospel was ferocious and delivered by fire breathing doom heralds. I believe that is changing, though not all the dragons have been ousted from their lairs.
