This far

A few days ago I read from 1 Chron. 17. David decides he should be a permament Temple for the Ark instead of the tent that has been in use for generations. But God responds through Nathan, "No... Solomon will build the temple." It would be so easy for David to throw a hissy and stomp his feet. But David didn't focus on what he was not allowed to do but on what God had already done for him. God reminded him that he had taken him, "from the pasture and from following the sheep to be ruler over My people Israel." David's response was, "Who am I...that you brought me this far."

Father help me to be thankful for what you have already done and not jealous of what has not yet happend. Help me to be amazed that you would bring me this far with no ambition to go further unless it results in your Glory.
